Minority Torture in Bangladesh

Minority Torture in Bangladesh
Adv. Rabindra Ghosh the founder president of Bangladesh Minority Watch (BDMW) along with his investigative Team went to Dinajpur and Thakurgaon Districts for fact finding investigation and legal assistance to minority victims soon after post-election violence took place at Karnai Bazar (U.P. No. 1 Chehelgazi) at Dinajpur Sadar in connection with Sadar P.S. Case No. 06 dated 06.01.2014, Case No. 07 dated 07.01.2014 and Case No. 12 dated 09.01.2014.
BDMW received three copies of F.I.R. (Those cases were not recorded under proper section of law rendering sufficient scope to perpetrators to get impunity.

Bangladesh Minority Watch (BDMW) along with Shanta Sarkar, Shyamol Banarjee, Biswanath Singh and Gouranga Roy of BDMW-Dinajpur Chapter appeared before Md. Altaf Hossain, Officer In-charge of Kotwali P.S. Dinajpur on 14.01.2014 at about 10:30 p.m. at his office to apprise him the present situation of human rights violations against minority communities at his jurisdiction as per various recent reports of such repression. Adv. Ghosh politely asked Md. Altaf Hossain how the sections 307 and 326 of Penal code were omitted in the above cases despite serious head injury caused to a minority victim Ramgopal Roy at Chehelgazi, the O.C. became annoyed with him started to rebuke in a filthy language stating “Bloody Advocate, why you are asking this question, I feel that you are not an Advocate and Human Rights Defender-you are a stupid guy” He also loudly said “Get out from my room, otherwise I will put you in jail-hajat,”

Adv. Ghosh was trying to convince him the implication of law which might render the victim in a great problem during trial. But Md. Altaf Hossain became intolerant  more furious and he directed his subordinate police officers on duty to push me out from his room with anger and said “Put him in prison” In the meantime some police constables under his control started to blow him at his nose and face and he was partially injured and verbally assaulted. But Hipjur Alam Munsi-Inspector of Police (Investigation) assisted mr. ghosh to go out from the room. Mr. Ghosh became traumatized and finding no other alternative made a telephone call to Mr. Hasan Mahamood Khandakar-Inspector General of Police, Bangladesh and informed him the situation how he was physically and mentally assaulted by Kotwali Police.

Adv. Rabindra Ghosh also met with District and Sessions Judge, Dinajpur,Deputy Commissioner,Dinajpur, Superintendent of Police, Dinajpur and imparted in writing  all of  them the unfortunate incident of attack on me today morning on 15.01.2014. He told them as perpetrators got impunity even in the courts they became more encouraged to attack Human Rights Activists all the time.

Previously also, during their fact finding investigation in the ground zero level, he was attacked by Police, Advocates and perpetrators on several occasions but it is unfortunate that no action has yet been taken against those perpetrators. All successive governments of Bangladesh gave all those perpetrators impunity rendering the lives, religious places and properties of minorities in a great jeopardy.  In many occasions also successwive government of Bangladesh has been trying to implicate me and my colleagues in many false cases with a view to stop our good activities in the ground zero level.

Adv. Ghosh needs urgent Action against those perpetrators enabling them to continue their job without any hindrances to establish good governance and tolerance.

Many witnesses will prove the incident of attack while police resorted to unlawful acts.
